CLAYTON — The Troy boys golf team’s first dual of the season was bound to be a letdown.
At least after the Troy Invitational got rained out on Monday.
Still, the Trojans (1-0) were able to put together a solid round while playing a new course for the first time, defeating Northmont 170-179 on a rainy Tuesday afternoon at Meadowbrook Golf Course.
“The guys were excited to play our Invitational yesterday, and that just didn’t happen. So I kind of expected a letdown today,” Troy coach Mark Evilsizor said. “The course was wet, it was a new course, we were playing it for the first time, it was our first dual of the year — a lot of factors went into it. It won’t go down as one of our better performances this year.
“Still, the guys were looking forward to playing our first dual. After playing so many 18-hole invitationals, you play nine holes and you’re done and it’s kind of a shock to your system. We played well enough to win, but ultimately we do want to play better.”
Holden Scribner was match medalist with a 41, with Nate Uhlenbrock and Keaton Pfeiffer right behind with 42s. Austin Rank and Jack Johnston both shot 45 and Ryan McClurg added a 47.
Troy returns home Thursday to Miami Shores to host Greater Western Ohio Conference American North rival Greenville in its first dual against a division opponent this season, in a match that will begin at 9 a.m.

Miami East 192
GREENVILLE — Miami East’s boys golf team dropped a head-to-head Cross County Conference matchup against Franklin Monroe Tuesday, falling 176-192 at Turtle Creek Golf Course.
Walker Henley and Dylan Martinez both shot 43 to lead the Vikings. Zac Johnson added a 50, Coop Ellerman shot 56, Tyler Fetters shot 57 and Jack Runner shot 62.
The Jets’ Bryce Filbrun was match medalist with a 39.
Miami East travels to Mississinawa Valley Thursday.
The Troy tennis team’s season opener at home against Tecumseh Tuesday was postponed due to rain, with no makeup date immediately set. The Trojans will host Springboro Wednesday.
Also postponed due to rain was the Covington girls golf team’s match at Franklin Monroe, with a makeup date still to be determined.
