MIAMI COUNTY — After Sunday afternoon, Miami County’s soccer and volleyball teams can finally make their postseason plans.

The sectional tournament draws for the boys and girls soccer and volleyball tournaments were held Sunday, with a number of local teams earning top seeds as the postseason gets ready to begin.

* Volleyball

No better place to start the bracket breakdowns than with a defending state champion.

In Division III, the Miami East volleyball team earned the top seep in the Brookville bracket, with all three of its local rivals ending up in the same bracket. The Vikings will face No. 19 Indian Lake to open the tournament on Oct. 18, with No 16 Preble Shawnee awaiting the winner. And in the other half of the bracket, No. 8 Milton-Union opens with No. 7 West Liberty-Salem, with No. 11 Bethel awaiting the winner of that matchup in the second round.

In Division I, the Troy Trojans earned the No. 3 seed in the Dayton area and went into the Centerville sectional bracket. There, they have a first-round bye and will play their first match on Oct. 21 against either No. 12 Wayne or No. 13 Fairborn. No. 4 Beavercreek and No. 5 Lebanon are two potential sectional final opponents in the other half of the bracket.

Piqua, meanwhile, drew the No. 11 seed and had a first-round bye, facing either No. 8 Sidney or No. 10 Northmont on Oct. 21.

In Division II, the Tippecanoe Red Devils earned the No. 2 seed in the Tecumseh sectional, where they will face No. 13 Belmont in the opening round Oct. 18. The winner between No. 4 Graham and No. 11 Meadowdale will face the winner in the second round, with No. 3 Greenon on the opposite half of the bracket as a potential sectional final opponent.

And in the Brookville 3 bracket, No. 10 Covington has a first-round bye, facing either No. 5 Greeneview or No. 19 Yellow Springs on Oct. 21, with No. 2 Versailles the likely sectional final opponent.

And in Division IV, No. 8 Lehman has the best local seed, facing No. 4 Franklin Monroe on Oct. 18 in the opening round. And No. 11 Newton will face No. 12 Twin Valley South on Oct. 17 to open the tournament, with either No. 13 Botkins or No. 16 Houston awaiting in the second round — and likely No. 2 Fort Loramie in the sectional final.

In the Troy sectional, Troy Christian drew the No. 10 seed and will face No. 17 Ansonia Oct. 17 to open the tournament, with either No. 7 Cedarville or No. 18 Fairlawn awaiting in the second round. In the other half of that bracket, No. 26 Bradford will have a first-round bye, facing either No. 3 Russia or No. 21 Legacy Christian on Oct. 21.

* Boys Soccer

The Tippecanoe boys soccer team was a regional finalist last year in Division II, losing to eventual state champion Alter. With a head-to-head win over the Knights this season, the Red Devils took the No. 1 seed in the Dayton sectional, and they will host No. 13 Ponitz to open the tournament on Oct. 17, with No. 12 Trotwood awaiting the winner in the second round.

In Division I, Troy earned the No. 6 seed and will host No. 8 Wayne — which defeated the Trojans at home recently — on Oct. 17. No 5 Butler or No. 9 Northmont will await in the second round, with second-seeded Carroll a likely sectional final matchup. And Piqua, the No. 14 seed, will face either No. 3 Centerville or No. 19 Belmont in the second round on Oct. 21.

In Division III, Bethel earned the No. 2 seed in the Dayton sectional and will host No. 24 Newton Oct. 17 to open play in the Dayton 3 bracket. The highest seed the Bees may see in the sectional is No. 8 Botkins, a potential sectional final opponent. And in the Dayton 4 bracket, No. 3 Troy Christian has a first-round bye, playing either No. 14 Lehman or No. 15 Greeneview in the second round on Oct. 21.

And in the Dayton 2 bracket, No. 6 Milton-Union and No. 7 Miami East — who battled to a draw in the regular season — will face off in the opening round, with No. 12 Twin Valley South awaiting the winner in the second round.

* Girls Soccer

In Division II, Tippecanoe’s girls soccer team earned the No. 1 seed in the Springfield sectional, taking a first-round bye. They will face either No. 8 Graham or No. 9 Ben Logan in the second round on Oct. 19.

In Division I, Troy earned the No. 4 seed and a first-round bye in the tournament, hosting either No. 6 Northmont or No. 7 Fairmont in the second round on Oct. 19. No. 12 Piqua will face No. 11 Fairborn in the opening round on Oct. 16, with No. 1 Springboro awaiting the winner in the second round.

In Division III, Milton-Union earned the No. 5 seed in the Dayton sectional and took a first-round bye in the Dayton 4 bracket. The Bulldogs will face either No. 20 Newton or No. 10 Miami Valley on Oct. 19. And in the other half of that bracket, No. 8 Troy Christian and No. 13 Bethel will face off in the opening round on Oct. 16, with No. 6 Greeneview awaiting in the second round.

In the Dayton 1 bracket, Miami East drew the No. 12 seed and will face No. 27 Yellow Springs on Oct. 16, with No. 9 Tri-County North awaiting in the second round. And in the Dayton 2 bracket, No. 3 Lehman took a first-round bye and will host either No. 22 Franklin Monroe or No. 23 Twin Valley South in the second round on Oct. 19.
