TIPP CITY — Entering Wednesday night’s play, Butler was the only team other than the Tippecanoe girls basketball team without a loss in Greater Western Ohio Conference American North Division play.
The Red Devils took care of that.
Tippecanoe (8-0, 5-0 GWOC American North), which went undefeated through league play en route to winning the division title in its first season in the GWOC last year, held the Aviators (4-3, 3-1 GWOC American North) to a mere six first-half points Wednesday night, jumping out to a huge lead and putting away a dominant 66-30 victory at home.
Maddie Frederick scored a game-high 21 points and Allison Mader added 15 to lead the Devils, who built a 19-4 lead at the end of the first quarter — a lead that grew to 36-6 by halftime. Cali Stewart added eight points, while Hailee Varvel and Brooke Aselage each chipped in six.
Tippecanoe travels to West Liberty-Salem Dec. 28.

COVINGTON — The Miami East wrestling team bounced back from a defeat at Versailles the previous night, traveling to Covington Wednesday and winning seven of the nine matches wrestled on the night to post a 51-28 victory over the rival Buccaneers.
Three of the first four matches went to Covington by way of forfeit, at 182, 195 and 285, with Miami East’s Brenden Dalton (220) scoring a pin in 1:59 to make the score 18-6 Buccs. Olivia Shore (106) scored a 4-2 victory, but a pin by Cael Vanderhorst (113) in 1:40 put Covington up 24-9.
The Vikings, though, ran off six straight wins — a forfeit and five pins — to put the match away. After a forfeit at 120, Graham Shore (126) scored a pin in 1:05, Kaleb Nickels (132) scored one in 1:44, Alex Isbrandt (138) scored one in 1:32, Zane Strubler (145) scored one in 1:47 and Travis Ferguson (152) scored one in 1:30 to make the score 45-24 Miami East before Covington finally broke up the run with a 10-0 major decision by Duncan Cooper (160). Michael Miller (170) finished the night with one last pin in 5:12 for the Vikings, though, and Miami East celebrated the win.
Both teams will next compete in large tournaments on Dec. 27 and 28, with Miami East going to the Medina Invitational and Covington to the GMVWA Holiday Tournament.
