MIAMI COUNTY — Troy’s Lauren Freed and volleyball coach Michelle Owen, as well as Tippecanoe girls soccer coach Brandon Baker and Lehman coach Jeremy Lorenzo, all earned top honors after the fall once the All-District and All-Area teams were announced following the season.

After a season like Troy volleyball had — and undefeated one that ended with a district runner-up finish — it was no surprise they dominated the Division I All-District 9 awards.

And after a career like Lauren Freed had, it was no surprise that she was named District 9 Player of the Year.

Troy coach Michelle Owen was also named District 9 Coach of the Year, and a total of five Trojan players earned all-district honors. Freed, Katie DeMeo and Dan Wynkoop were all named to the first team, while Miranda Silcott and Camryn Moeller were both named to the second team.

Piqua’s Cassidy Sullenberger earned first-team honors, while Kyla Blankenship and Kelsey Magoteaux were named to the second team and Ashley Ho earned honorable mention.

In Division II, Tippecanoe’s Aubrey Cox was named to the first team, Alyssa Crusey and Taylor Prall were named second team and Kara Trimbach earned honorable mention.

In Division III, Miami East’s Jonni Parker and Kyndall Hellyer were named first team and Lindsey Black was named second team. Milton-Union’s Michaela Fullmer was named first team, Lauren Craig was named second team and Anna Willson earned honorable mention.

In Division I, Troy’s Sierra Besecker earned a spot on the all-area team.

In Division III, Lehman’s Jeremy Lorenzo was named the all-area Private Coach of the Year, and Sara Fuller was named the Player of the Year, the Cavs’ only player on the all-area team.

Milton-Union’s Danielle McFarland and Miami East’s Sage Hunley both also earned spots on the all-area team. Milton-Union’s Tom Lane was named the Assistant Coach of the Year.

* Tennis

Five Troy Trojans, Six Tippecanoe Red Devils and two players each from Milton-Union and Lehman earned postseason honors from the Miami Valley Tennis Coaches Association (MVTCA) this fall.

Troy’s Hannah Essick was named to the all-area first team in singles, while Maggie Hennessy, Ashley Bruns, Zoey Scancarello and Sierra Verstraten all earned honorable mention. Scancarello also won the Academic award.
