TROY — Leadership Troy graduated its latest class and said farewell to former program coordinator Corie Schweser during the 2017 Troy Area Chamber of Commerce Recognition banquet on Thursday.
Tony Trapp, the apprenticeship coordinator and assistant HVACR instructor at Upper Valley Career Center, reflected on the class’ journey through the program.
Trapp shared the class’ project of “Blessing Boxes,” which donated household items, small appliances and goods to the Family Abuse Shelter for women and families to get started in their own homes. Approximately 76 boxes and 150 new pillows were donated to the organization.
Trapp also recognized Schweser during her last Leadership Troy graduation after three years of running the program.
“I can’t be more proud of this class, it seems every year I learn so much from them. I truly become a much better person, knowing that we have better leaders and are nurturing better leaders in this community,” Schweser said. “I’ve been so honored to have been nurtured and been a part of three classes. This community will be a better community because they’ll share their time and their incredible talents.”
Last September, Schweser announced she will be taking a new position as community development manager for the American Cancer Society.
