‘Sweet Heat’ tradition continues at festival

TROY — The Future Begins Today will be selling its award-winning Strawberry Salsa at the Troy Strawberry Festival this weekend on June 4-5, downtown near the corner of Walnut and East Main streets. This will be the 13th year in production.

This “sweet heat” salsa has taken home two culinary awards in years past. The salsa was featured in the latest edition of Ohio Magazine for its unique ingredients and Strawberry Festival sale tradition. And last year, the salsa sold out early.

Jars will sell at $6 each with proceeds benefitting Troy students. Salsa profits go toward Troy student scholarships that are awarded through The Future Begins Today. To date, The Future Begins Today has awarded more than $620,000 in support of students’ higher education.

Executive Director, Natalie Rohlfs shared, “This is a combination of strawberry sweetness with a little kick that makes it hard to resist. That’s why our return customers are so loyal; it seems to go with whatever the season and whatever dishes you are serving.”

When your festival jars are empty, you can restock your salsa supply at Winans Chocolates & Coffees at the downtown Troy location, Bakehouse Bread Co. and Fulton Farms Market.

The Future Begins Today provides nurturing, mentoring and scholarship programs for Troy students. Programming is targeted toward students who are elementary-aged through high school graduates and was established in 1993. For more information, visit www.thefuturebeginstoday.org.
