MONROE TOWNSHIP — Monroe Township Trustees passed the 2016 Fireworks Contract with the city of Tipp City at the township board meeting held June 6. The Township assists with the cost of the fireworks display. This year’s display and activities are set for July 4 from 4-10 p.m. at the Tipp City Park, 35 Parkwood Drive.

The 2017 proposed tax budget presented by the township fiscal officer shows estimated resources of $2,235,424.88. Two copies of this proposed tax budget are at the township office, available to be reviewed by the public for the next two weeks. A public hearing on this topic will be held at the next township meeting, 7 p.m. Monday, June 20 in the meeting room at 6 E. Main St., Tipp City. At this same meeting, bills were paid totaling $60,298.37, and the board accepted the financial status report ending May 2016 and the bank reconciliation report as of April 30.

Information gathered at the Maple Hill Cemetery information tent by the office staff leading up to Memorial Day weekend was reported to township board members at this first June meeting. Of approximately 34 individuals visiting the information tent, the reasons for the stop included not only to ask for directions to a family member or friends’ grave sites but also about the process for purchasing graves, cemetery history, genealogy, Veterans’ markers, and flags. Many were from the local area but others came in from Dayton and Springfield as well as the states of Virginia and Texas.

The maintenance staff reported continued efforts with upkeep of all township cemeteries and properties, especially recent needs of cleaning out and mowing ditches, trimming trees and tree lines along township roads, and equipment repairs.

It was noted the Monroe Township Water and Sewer District meeting will be held Monday, June 13 at 6 p.m. in the township meeting room, 6 E. Main St., Tipp City. These meetings are open to the public. Other local activities and events include the weekly Miami County Household Hazardous Waste Drop-off 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. each Wednesday through October at Miami County Sanitary Engineer Office, 2200 N. County Road 25-A, Troy; Tipp City Senior Citizens 10 a.m. business meeting on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month at its current location of 320 S. First St., Tipp City; the weekly Tipp City Farmer’s Market on Thursdays from 5-8 p.m. with set up at the corner of South Third and East Main streets; and the annual downtown Tipp City Antique and Artisan Show from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 18.

The trustees have agreed to provide use of township tables and chairs, as they have done in past years, to this year’s Fourth Annual Children’s Art Adventure sponsored by the Tipp City Arts Council. This event is scheduled on Saturday, Aug. 6 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Tipp City Park.
