TROY — This Sunday morning, the annual Troy Kids Triathlon will draw hundreds of children ages 4 to 14 to the heart of the city of Troy’s recreation facilities to raise money for Miami County’s CASA/GAL children in need.
The Miami County CASA/Gal is a nonprofit organization which provides court appointed special advocate/guardian ad litem to represent abused and neglected children in need in the Miami County Juvenile Court system.
The annual Troy Kids Triathlon event has grown each year to nearly 450 participants from around the region, according to Carrie Slater, assistant director of the Troy Recreation Department.
On Wednesday, Slater said more than 240 children have signed up prior to this Sunday’s event. Event organizers are expecting several hundred more participants to sign up the morning of the event. Registration is now only available the day of the race at the Troy Aquatic Park. The registration fee is $20 which includes T-shirt, finisher and participation medals, goodie bag and post-race refreshments.
Based on their respective age groups, the race begins with a quick swim at the Troy Aquatic Park, a bike ride on the Great Miami River bike path and finishes with a run at the Troy Memorial Stadium to the finish line.
The event will close Adams Street between Water Street and Staunton Road from 7:30 a.m. to noon for the safety of the children and the approximate one hundred volunteers who help with the event.
