Fire damages cabins at Ludlow Falls camp

Staff reports

LUDLOW FALLS — Five cottages were damaged in an early morning fire at Ludlow Falls Camp, which firefighters are investigating.

According to Ludlow Falls Fire Department Fire Chief Greg Bridenbaugh, the crew first received the call of a fire around 4:13 a.m. and were dispatched to the camp at 2535 South Ohio 48 shortly afterward.

The cause of the fire is still undetermined.

“It’s possible that because of the thunderstorm going on this morning the weather could have played a role, but as of now we can’t be sure,” Bridenbaugh said.

The damage is estimated around $25,000.

No one was in the cottages at the time, Bridenbaugh said. A week-long church camp ended Sunday evening at 8 p.m., so no one was on the site.

He estimated that some of the cottages were 50 or 60 years old and either owned by the camp or some private individuals.

Crews blocked a portion of Ohio 48 while they battled the blaze, but allowed the road to reopen around 7 a.m.
