WEST MILTON – Family and friends will honor former Milton-Union High School principal Ed Lendenski with the fourth annual Ed Lendenski Memorial Blood Drive Monday, Aug. 17 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Transfiguration Catholic Church community room, 972 South Miami St, West Milton.

Ed died in 2012 after a long battle with the bone marrow disorder myelodysplastic syndrome. MDS patients develop severe anemia and his treatment included many blood transfusions. His family began the memorial blood drive as a way to thank and honor blood donors who helped extend his life.

“It’s for dad and for anybody else that needs blood,” said Ed’s son Eddie Lendenski after donating at last year’s memorial blood drive. “People don’t realize how important this really is until it happens to someone in your family.”

Everyone who registers to donate will receive a free “Catch the Wave – Donate Blood” plastic water bottle. Everyone age 18 and older will also be entered in the Community Blood Center (CBC) “Get on Board – Give Blood” summer blood drive drawing to win an all-expense-paid Hawaii vacation for two. Donors are encouraged to schedule an appointment online at or call 1-800-388-GIVE.

The grand prize includes air travel and deluxe accommodations for eight nights at two island locations. All taxes, fees and meals are included. The vacation package also includes pre-paid activities and sight-seeing excursions, plus all ground transportation.

REACH magazine is the media sponsor and The Flowerman is the fresh flower sponsor. Eligible donors can enter the drawing a second time when they register for a second donation during the blood drive period. Official rules are available at
