PIQUA — A local man was incarcerated Tuesday night after being accused of engaging in sexual conduct with a minor under the age of 10.

Robert T. Daniels, Jr., 32, of Piqua, was charged and arraigned on one count of first-degree felony rape on Wednesday morning. The investigation began after Piqua Central Intermediate School contacted the Piqua Police Department on Tuesday. Daniels reportedly knew the victim.

According to Miami County Municipal Court records, there were approximately 10 incidences of sexual conduct that took place over two years. The alleged sexual conduct was digital penetration. The incidences reportedly took place at private residences in Piqua.

When Daniels was questioned, he denied all of the allegations. According to court records, an officer noted that Daniels “did not seem surprised and was very calm” during the interview.

Daniels is currently being held at the Miami County Jail on $300,000 bond. Judge Gary Nasal ordered that if Daniels posts bond, Daniels will not be allowing to have any unsupervised contact with any juvenile. A preliminary hearing for this case is scheduled for Dec. 14.

Unrelated to this case, Daniels is also facing another open case in Miami County Municipal Court. He was charged with first-degree misdemeanor theft in September and a court trial for that charge is scheduled for Dec. 28.
