Wright completes basic training

SAN ANTONIO, Texas — U.S. Air Force Airman Jesse L. Wright graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas.

The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.

Airmen who complete basic training also earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

Wright is a 2015 graduate of Troy High School, Troy.

Students named to Muskingum dean’s list

NEW CONCORD, Ohio — The following students have been named to the fall 2016 dean’s list at Muskingum University in New Concord, Ohio:

Heidi Snipes, Covington

Kristin Mace, Tipp City

To be named to the dean’s list, Muskingum University students must attain strictly prescribed levels of academic performance in their overall grade point average.

Mace participates in MLK Day of Service

NEW CONCORD, Ohio — Kristin Mace of Tipp City was one of the Muskingum University students who showed support for the national Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service on Monday, Jan. 16.

Across Muskingum and Guernsey counties, students donated their time at a variety of locations with many different activities. Agencies and organizations included the Bethel Community Center, College Drive Presbyterian Church, Putman Historic District, United Way of Muskingum and Guernsey Counties, and the Zanesville Animal Shelter.

Miami University students study abroad

OXFORD, Ohio — Miami University students spent the fall 2016 semester in a study abroad group.

With 49 percent of Miami undergraduate students studying abroad for credit by the time they graduate, Miami is ranked first among public doctoral institutions nationwide for students studying abroad.

Besecker starts as freshman

TIFFIN — Sierra Besecker from Troy, is a freshman at Tiffin University and member of the women’s soccer team. In her freshman year, she played in all 18 games and started the last seven games. She scored her first goal in the second game of the season.

She also was named to the dean’s list for the fall semester with a 3.63 GPA.

McKinney named to dean’s list

DELAWARE, Ohio — Ohio Wesleyan University is pleased to announce its 2016 fall semester dean’s list. To qualify for OWU dean’s list recognition, students must earn a grade point average of 3.5 or better on a 4.0 scale in all applicable classes.

Alyssa McKinney of Piqua was named to the dean’s list.
