TIPP CITY — At their meeting Monday night, the Tipp City council approved an ordinance advancing the County Road 25A reconstruction project.

Council voted to award the contract for the first phase of the reconstruction project to R. B. Jergens in the amount of $3.392,852. R.B. Jergens submitted the lowest bid, six others were received.

The project will widen and reconstruct County Road 25A in two phases, and will cover the area from West Main Street south to Evanston Road.

Phase one includes the reconstruction of 25A from State Route 571 to Michaels Road. The second phase is planned for 2017.

Council also approved an ordinance amending Chapter 37 of the city’s code. This section of the code deals with employees that are not covered by a collective bargaining agreement.

The ordinance amended the code to include several new or recently changed positions, including the position of a human resources generalist — which has not yet been filled.

Council also voted to rezone the Gulf station property on County Road 25A. The lot was annexed earlier this year when the owner of the property requested city utility service.

The lot was rezoned from highway business interim zoning to highway business.

“When a commercial property is annexed to the community, it comes in with a temporary designation,” City Manager Tim Eggleston said. Once the annexation is reviewed by the planning commission, it may be approved for a final zoning classification.

Council passed a resolution entering into a contract with the Miami County Public Defender’s Office to provide legal services to indigent citizens. This resolution is passed annually.

Mayor Pat Hale read a proclamation in support of Feed Ohio, an organization that collections donations to assist local food banks.

Between Aug. 24 and Sept. 13, Feed Ohio will be collecting items for the Needy Basket. Barrels will be set out in various locations, including the government center and Food Town.
