Punt, Pass and Kick event set

TROY — Registration is underway for the Second annual Punt, Pass and Kick event.

Troy Football, Lincoln Community Center and the Troy-Miami County Public Library will be hosting this event at 10 a.m. May 6 at Ferguson Field. This free competition includes instruction from Troy varsity football players on proper throwing, kicking and punting mechanics.

Participants who pre-register will receive guaranteed giveaways from sponsors. There will be four age groups for boys and girls, ages 6-7, ages 8-9, ages 10-11, and ages 12-13. Trophies will be awarded for the first three places in each age group.

Registration forms will be available and can be turned in at the Troy library or Lincoln Community Center. Visit tmcpl.org for online registration or a printable form. There will be registration the day of event beginning at 9:30 a.m. dependent on participation.

Building project DVD available

COVINGTON — The Covington High School multi-media and communications classes, under the supervision of Mrs. Marti Cain and Mrs. Bridgit Kerber, have created a DVD of the new building project.

This DVD features over 1,400 pictures and features the old elementary and middle school buildings, demolition of both buildings, construction from the first shovel of dirt in May 2015 to the open house in August 2016. It also contains images of the new building, including all of the classrooms, the cafeteria, the gymnasium and playgrounds, plus aerial views of the entire campus.

This DVD is on sale for $5 and can be purchased through the board of education office, located in the high school.

WOE seeking nominations

PIQUA — Deadline for nominations for the 21st annual YWCA Women of Excellence and Young Woman of Tomorrow Awards is Monday, May 15, at 5 p.m. or postmarked on May 15. Nomination forms are available at the YWCA Piqua at 418 N. Wayne St., by phone at 773-6626, or email Leesa Baker lbaker@ywcapiqua.com.

The awards, established by the YWCA in 1997, have been given annually to recognize women in Miami County who have distinguished themselves in their careers and/or in civic and community activities. The honorees must reside, be employed, or be active in Miami County. An individual, a group, or an organization may submit nominations.

The Young Woman of Tomorrow honoree must be between 16-22 years of age as of May 15, 2017.

This year’s honorees will be selected by a committee of impartial judges composed of men and women from throughout Miami County. Awards will be presented at a Gala Luncheon on Thursday, Oct. 19.

FFA member of month named

CASSTOWN — The April 2017 Miami East-MVCTC FFA Member of the Month is Ethin Bendickson. Bendickson is the son of Derek and Kris Bendickson of Troy. He is a freshman at Miami East High School and a first year agriculture student enrolled in Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources.

Bendickson was selected as the member of the month for his consistent participation in various FFA activities. He was a member of the soils evaluation, parliamentary procedures team, and Agriculture Power and Diagnostics Career Development Events. Recently, Ethin applied to and was accepted to be a member of the State FFA Band at the upcoming State FFA Convention in May. Ethin’s Supervised Agriculture Experience program is a firewood cutting business.

Every month of the school year the Miami East-MVCTC FFA will select a student to be the FFA Member of the Month. The officer team will nominate one student that has been actively involved in the FFA chapter, school and community activities. If selected, the member will be recognized at the monthly FFA meeting, have their picture displayed in the Miami East Agriculture Classroom, and receive a special memento in celebration of their accomplishment.
