ALEXANDRIA, S.D. — A Miami East High School graduate has been injured in a car accient in Omaha, Neb., and her husband killed.
ME grad Emily (Chappie) Hrubes was traveling in a car with her husband, Ryan, who was killed, along with a well-known Omaha pastor and his wife, Ty and Terri Schenzel, both of whom also were killed, according to KETV Channel 7 in Omaha.
Emily Hrubes, 26, daughter of Mike and Patti Chappie of Casstown, has serious but non-life threatening injuries, according to the report.
The accident happened Thursday along Interstate 90 about 3 miles east of Alexandria, S.D.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol said a pickup truck heading east in the westbound lanes of I-90 about 4:30 p.m. Thursday struck another vehicle head on, causing both vehicles to burst into flames.
The pickup truck driver, 75-year-old David Wise, of Salem, S.D., was killed.
Ryan Hrubes was driving the other vehicle, the South Dakota State Patrol said.
Ryan Hrubes was a graduate of Iowa State University and from Garner, Iowa, and is an account representative with Dow Agro Sciences. Emily Hrubes is a graduate of The Ohio State University, a business manager with Union Pacific and is a board member of Omaha’s Literacy Center.
The couple married last November in Omaha.
