Township prohibits medical marijuana

MONROE TWP. — The Monroe Township Trustees passed a resolution at their Sept. 5 meeting that indefinitely prohibits licensed medical marijuana cultivators, processors and retail dispensaries within the unincorporated territory of Monroe Township in Miami County. This resolution becomes effective Sept. 8, 2017.

Another resolution passed by the board included an agreement for the township to pay $5,000 towards the purchase of one Thor Lightening Guard System at Kyle Park. The City of Tipp City will be funding the remaining $8,000 for this system. Recommended by the Tipp City Park Board, this lightening warning system is meant to benefit the public safety of sports teams and park visitors.

The trustees also passed this week’s bill payments that totaled $119,760.24, and accepted the financial status reports ending August 2017 and the bank reconciliation of July 31, 2017 as presented by the township fiscal officer. The board also assessed fees totaling $1,500 to lots on Bon Air and David drives and on West Main Street, all within the unincorporated township area, for work required to rid these areas of overgrowth by tall grass and noxious weeds.

It was also noted that the Monroe Township Water and Sewer District will conduct their monthly business meeting Monday, September 11 at 6 p.m. in the township meeting room, 6 E. Main St., Tipp City. The public is invited to attend this meeting to discuss or ask questions about the on-going project in Country Estates East. In other reports, it was explained that a Bike Trail volunteer survey is being conducted in the near future of users on the area Bike Trail about how much an individual uses it, where they are coming from or going to, and why they like the Bike Trail. These surveys are anticipated to assist with future maintenance focuses and make note of an economic benefit to communities near the Bike Trails.

Events occurring this month for area residents include the Miami County Household Hazardous Waste Drop-Off from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. each Wednesday through September at the Miami County Sanitary Engineer Office, 2200 N. County Rd. 25-A, Troy; the weekly Tipp City Farmers Marketplace 5-8 p.m. on Thursdays and extended into October this year at the corner of East Main and South Third streets; and the Annual Tipp City Mum Festival activities Sept. 22-24 that includes a cruise-in on Sept. 22 and the parade on Sept. 23, both in Historic Downtown Tipp City; and live entertainment, festival food and sales booths at the Tipp City Park Sept. 23-24.
