MIAMI COUNTY — The Miami County Board of Elections met in regular session on Tuesday afternoon, officially opening the polls for the Nov. 6 general election.

Early voting began on Oct. 10. Since then, over 9,000 people have voted, including approximately 7,000 mailed absentee ballots and approximately 2,000 people voting in-office.

“The numbers are going up every day,” Director Bev Kendall of the Miami County Board of Elections said on Tuesday.

Kendall said that the number of voters is currently a little higher compared to previous elections. Four years ago, a total of approximately 30,000 Miami County residents voted in that election. There are nearly 74,000 registered voters in Miami County.

Early voting hours at the board of elections office include:

• Today through Friday, Oct. 26, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

• Saturday, Oct. 27, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

• Monday, Oct. 29, through Friday, Nov. 2, from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.

• Saturday, Nov. 3, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

• Sunday, Nov. 4, from 1-5 p.m.

• Monday, Nov. 5, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

On Election Day, Nov. 6, polling locations will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Voters who requested absentee ballots prior to the beginning of the early voting period but have not yet received them should check with their post office or contact the board of elections office to check on the status of their absentee ballot.

The board also approved the number of voting machines that will be at each polling location on Nov. 6, which will be similar to the May 8 primary election earlier this year. There will also be 20 backup voting machines ready on Nov. 6.

The board then approved any necessary remakes for absentee ballots that might have been damaged. There will be both a Democrat employee and a Republican employee present when those ballots are remade.

The board recessed until the Nov. 6 election.

The Miami County Board of Elections is located on the first floor of the old courthouse at 215 W. Main St. in Troy and can be contacted at (937) 440-3900. For more information, visit miami.ohioboe.com.
