PIQUA — A multi-vehicle crash left several victims needing medical treatment on Tuesday.
First responders were called to County Road 25-A at Troy-Sidney Road on a reported three-vehicle crash around 3 p.m.
Piqua Police were in the area and Piqua Fire Department responded with a rescue truck and medics. Fletcher Fire Department was also dispatched as mutual aid.
CareFlight, which had been put on standby, was asked to respond for one of the three victims. Sidney Fire Department was also requested as a mutual aid medic.
Both lanes of County Road 25-A were shut down due to the crash and Fletcher firefighters closed the highway farther north in order to secure a landing zone for CareFlight.
One male patient was transported aboard the medical helicopter and two patients were taken by ambulance.
Miami County deputies on the scene said that victims and bystanders told them that a black pickup truck was northbound on County Road 25-A when the driver attempted to make a left-hand turn onto Troy-Sidney Road when he turned into the path of a southbound red work truck. The two vehicles hit head-on. A white sedan that had been following the red truck was unable to avoid the crash and also struck the red truck. The impact sent the black truck into a field while the other two vehicles remained in the roadway.
The driver of the black pickup truck was the victim transported by CareFlight. A passenger in his truck and the driver of the red truck were transported by ground ambulance while the driver of the white sedan was not injured.
No names have been released. The crash remains under investigation by Miami County sheriff’s deputies.
