Tipp sees second incident in weekend


TIPP CITY — A robbery suspect was arrested Sunday following a pursuit and crash.

Police were called to the Speedway gas station located at 1000 W. Main St. around 5:15 a.m. Sunday.

According to officers, a suspect approached the clerk, jumped the counter, and grabbed money that was being counted.

The suspect fled the scene in a blue Dodge Caravan east on West Main Street. Deputies said they tried to stop the vehicle, but a pursuit ensued. The suspect led officials on a pursuit through Clark, Miami, and Montgomery counties.

The suspect crashed at Benchwood Road and Miller Lane in Butler Township. Officials said the suspect dumped the stolen money into a trash bin and ran from them. Officers caught him at the Speedway station in Butler Township.

Police recovered $220 of the stolen money. The vehicle was towed as part of the investigation. Officials said they discovered the vehicle was driven by a woman who said she was carjacked at a Harrison Township gas station. Police said that part of the investigation is pending.

Police identified the suspect as Steven Williams, 47, of Dayton. He was taken to Grandview Hospital to be treated for a medical condition. Williams is facing robbery charges. Additional charges are pending.
