PIQUA — Piqua High School student of the week for the week of Feb. 11-15 is sophomore Marissa Helton.
Helton was nominated by U.S Studies teacher Josh Burns for exhibiting the traits of honesty, diligence, integrity, and trustworthiness. When asked why he chose Helton, Burns said, “Marissa is one of the best students I’ve ever taught. She works hard, participates well, and always jumps in to help me if I need something. She is a fine young lady!”
Helton, daughter of Melissa and David Helton, said her favorite subject is Social Studies, and Heather Monroe is by far her favorite teacher. When asked to elaborate, Helton said, “She’s funny.” She added that social studies is her favorite subject because “I feel like the teachers explain it very well- where it’s easy to understand.”
Although she doesn’t plan on joining any school programs or activities she certainly plans for her future. She intends on going to college and wants to major in nursing. When asked why she is interested in nursing, Helton said, “It’s a family thing. My mom and grandmother are both nurses.” She believes the most important traits for a successful life are, “hard work and kindness.”
However, she doesn’t plan to forget her roots in the future. She deeply enjoys PHS because “it’s quiet; not many people bother me.”
