TROY — Approximately seven Troy Police Department officers responded to the Troy Junior High School late Monday evening following a fight between the eighth grade boys basketball team and the visiting team from Springfield.
According to police reports, Troy Junior High School Principal Dave Dilbone reported the disturbance call around 8:32 p.m. as well as other calls about a fight between the players on the team.
The incident allegedly began after a Springfield team member shoved a Troy player on the court which resulted in a technical foul. The Springfield player then allegedly began to get “out of control,” causing the Troy team to become angry.
According to the incident report, another Springfield player punched a Troy team member. According to statements, that player left the game to seek medical treatment. The report did state that Troy players were also throwing punches as well as Springfield players, although no members of the team stayed to speak to police.
At this time, Troy City Schools Superintendent Eric Herman has not been reached for comment in regard to this incident.
