PIQUA — Piqua Catholic School recently held their 10th annual Hair-Cutathon where seven students participated in donating hair to a charity aimed at helping kids dealing with hair loss.

The school has had 68 students, moms, grandmothers, and one grandfather donate hair over the last 10 years as part of this event. The girls donate anywhere from eight to 12 inches depending on their hair length and how much they want to donate. They can also pick who they want to cut their hair, whether it is a friend, teacher, or parent.

Piqua Catholic then donates the girls’ hair to a charity called Children With Hair Loss. The organization gives children one free wig each year up to the age of 21. Last year, the organization was able to make over 500 wigs. Out of those wigs, 22 were for children in Ohio.

“I always tell the kids, I like to think that at least one of those children received hair from our school,” Piqua Catholic School Nurse Therese Roush said.

Piqua Catholic School has also “donated 520 inches, or 44 feet, of beautiful blonde, brown, black, and even grey hair!” Roush said. Four of the seven girls this year have donated previously in other years of their Hair-Cutathons.
