CASSTOWN — The Miami East Board of Education has approved a special soccer fundraiser, to be held at Miami East High School this Wednesday, Aug. 21 starting at 5:30 p.m. Hosted by the Miami East athletic department, the event will help to raise funds for the family of Cailyn Walker, a Miami East student who passed away as a result of an accident that occured on Aug. 16 at the intersection of U.S. Route 36 and Lena-Palestine Road.
Board members approved the fundraiser during their regularly scheduled meeting on Monday, Aug. 19. In other business, board members also approved over $1,748 in environmental grants from the Miami County Park District to Miami East Elementary.
“Once again we are blessed to have the support of the Miami County Park District,” superintendent Dr. Todd Rappold said. “They awarded grants in excess of $1,700 for elementary and junior high students to participate in a variety of different activities.”
Board members also discussed the possibility of asking the park district for help with maintenance at the district’s land lab.
“We’re going to explore some options,” Dr. Rappold said. “Part of the problem with the land lab is the entrance; it’s hard to get in there. We’re going to bring the Miami County Park District in and see if we could cut a different entrance.”
Also at Monday’s meeting, board members voted to accept the resignation of fourth grade teacher Lauren Bell, effective at the conclusion of the 2018-2019 school year.
