TROY — After 29 years at the helm, Diana Thompson, executive director for the Miami County Visitors & Convention Bureau, is retiring in December. As the Bureau’s first and only executive director, Thompson has been part of many new and exciting events. Additionally, tourism has experienced significant growth in the area under Thompson’s leadership.

“Diana has truly been at the forefront of Miami County’s transformation to a leading tourism destination in Southwest Ohio” said Will Harrelson, current president of the Board of Directors for the Bureau. “She has worked tirelessly with her staff since the formation of the Bureau in creating new opportunities to showcase and market our many communities, attractions, and shopping and dining destinations. We are forever grateful for Diana’s contributions.”

Effective Oct. 1, Leiann Stewart will assume the role of executive director for the Miami County Visitors & Convention Bureau. She has been a team member of the Bureau since October 2013 and brings 20 years of marketing and sales management experience to her new role. Stewart currently serves on the Board for the Ohio Travel Association and is on their Executive Board. Additionally, she is on the board for Ohio Has It!, an organization developing and promoting group travel throughout the state of Ohio. Stewart also serves on the NAHA (National Aviation Heritage Alliance) Communicator’s Council and represents Miami County on the marketing committee for the Great Miami Riverway. Stewart is a 2015 graduate of the Ohio Tourism Leadership Academy and a 2016 graduate of the Edison Academy for Community Leadership.

“I appreciate the confidence that Diana and the Board of Directors have placed in me as the next Executive Director, and I am eager to get started in my new role,” said Stewart. “I am excited to continue strengthening our position within the Ohio Tourism Industry and working with our partners and stakeholders to promote all facets of Miami County.”

“The Board of Directors enthusiastically elected to promote Leiann from within the organization because of her ability to collaborate with our many stakeholders and proudly represent Miami County on a regional and national stage. While we are all sad to see Diana move on to the next chapter of her life, we are very excited for Leiann to lead us in the future,” Harrelson said.

With the naming of Stewart as executive director, it left the position of Group Sales manager available. Meghan Rodriguez has been hired to fill this position for the Miami County Visitors & Convention Bureau. Rodriguez is an Ohio native and brings with her four years of experience working in the Ohio Tourism Industry. She is also a 2018 graduate of the Ohio Tourism Leadership Academy.
