STAUNTON TOWNSHIP — A Troy woman died as a result of a single-vehicle crash on Friday morning.
Deputies from the Miami County Sheriff’s Office responded to a roll-over crash on State Route 202, just south of Fulton Farms. At approximately 5:25 a.m., a passing motorist stopped a deputy, advising there was a vehicle off the roadway with very dim lights that needed checked on in the 2000 block of South State Route 202. The deputy arrived minutes later to find a Jeep Wrangler off the east side of the roadway. The deputy located the driver lying beside the vehicle, deceased. The driver had been ejected from the vehicle. The driver was identified as Caroline M. Tucker, 26, of Troy, according to a press release from the Miami County Sheriff’s Office.
Two siblings — a boy, 3, and a girl, 4 — were found inside the vehicle. Both toddlers were transported by CareFlight to Children’s Hospital, where they were admitted with non-life threatening injuries. It is believed both children had been properly secured in child car seats.
Deputies believe that the crash may have occurred hours before it was discovered by the passing motorist.
The Miami County Sheriff’s Office crash reconstruction team responded to the scene early Friday. The preliminary investigation indicated the vehicle was traveling northbound when it crossed over into the southbound lane into the ditch. The driver then over-corrected before coming back onto the roadway and then going off the right side of the roadway, where the vehicle overturned one time, according to the Miami County Sheriff’s Office.
Speed does not appear to be a factor. There was no physical evidence of impaired driving at the scene. On the order of Miami County Coroner Dr. William Ginn, the remains were removed to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office for an autopsy. Deputies were assisted at the scene by the Troy Fire Department and medics.
The Miami County Sheriff’s Office’s investigation into this incident is ongoing.
