MIAMI COUNTY — The Miami County Commissioners approved several purchases and awarded a contract at their meeting Thursday.
The commissioners authorized the purchase of a 2010 Vac-Con jetter-hydrovac truck through state contract pricing. The total cost of the truck is not to exceed $186,000 from Best Equipment of Indianapolis, Ind.
Commissioner John “Bud” O’Brien noted that the board asked legal counsel to look into the legality of purchasing used equipment through state contract pricing and that the purchase was deemed acceptable.
The commissioners also awarded a contract for the cash renting of the Children’s Home Farm to Sam Durst of Sidney.
The total annual rent will be $17,457 — about $211 per tillable acre and $1,200 for the barn per year. The contract will expire Jan. 31, 2018.
“Mr. Durst already farms another part of our farm acreage that the county owns and we have a positive experience with him at that location,” O’Brien said.
The board also approved a change order to the contract with Debra-Kuempel for the plumbing portion of the plumbing and security upgrades to the courthouse and Safety Building.
There will be an increase in the amount of $1,559, but the final contract amount is still $435,000, with almost $6,000 remaining in the contingency fund.
The change order adds a power disconnect at the sanitary grinder pit for powering off the bypass valve pump. A second disconnect will be added in case of an emergency that would require a maintenance worker to shut down the valve and pump quickly inside the pit.
The commissioners also authorized the purchase of one new 20 yard open top roll-off container and one new 30 yard open top roll-off container at a cost of $8,000.
These containers will replace the original containers that were purchased for the transfer station in 1998.
