Memorial service planned

TROY — A public memorial service and balloon launch will be held for family and friends of Michael J. Fariello, the longtime and well-known manager of Troy’s Skyline Restaurant, from 7-8 p.m. Sept. 11 at WACO Field, Troy.

The balloon launch will be at 8 p.m.

Beginner’s beekeeping course offered

MIAMI COUNTY — Ohio State University Extension will offer a Beginner’s Beekeeping Course on Tuesdays in the month of October. The course will be of interest to honeybee enthusiasts and anyone thinking about starting their own beekeeping business venture.

The class will cover topics on equipment, inspecting a hive, local ordinances, bee biology, foraging, diseases and pests, challenges, goals and seasonal management. Participants will hear from experienced local beekeepers that can provide a wealth of knowledge to the novice beekeeper.

Classes will begin Oct. 13 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. The class will meet in the Extension Meeting room at the Old Courthouse on 201 W Main Street, Troy, Ohio. The cost is $50 for four sessions and includes a binder with handouts, refreshments and a beginner’s beekeeping book.

FFA Member of the Month

The September 2015 Miami East-MVCTC FFA Member of the Month is Carly Gump. Carly is a junior at Miami East High School and the daughter of Kevin and Janet Gump of Fletcher. Carly is a third year member of the Miami East-MVCTC FFA Chapter and is currently enrolled in the Livestock Science Course.

At the 2015 Miami County Fair Gump exhibited the Reserve Champion Market Lamb and a sawhorse in the FFA Shop & Crop Building. She also exhibited the 2015 Ohio State Fair Grand Champion Brockle-Faced Market Lamb.

Besides market lambs, Gump’s Supervised Agricultural Experience Program consists of breeding and marketing Great Pyrenees dogs through social media. Her 2015 FFA Small Animal Care and Production Proficiency Award placed in the top 3 in the district evaluations.

As an active FFA member, Gump has participated in fruit sales, novice parliamentary procedures Career Development Event, and the FFA’s annual Ag Day for elementary students. She is a member of the Varsity Volleyball team and competes in several traveling volleyball teams.

Road closure announced

TIPP CITY — Beginning On Sept. 21, 2015, County Road 25-A from State Route 571 (W Main Street) to Curry Branch Drive will be closed for culvert replacement and utility reconstruction for the first phase of the County Road 25A Reconstruction Project.

County Road 25-A from Curry Branch to 5335 N. County Road 25-A will be open to residents and local traffic only, no access to State Route 571 can be provided.

Evanston Road, Peters Road and State Route 571 will be posted as the detour route.

The City expects a three to four week construction schedule for the first phase and then will proceed to phases two and three of the reconstruction project, which will change traffic patterns and access.
