Pie fundraiser under way
MIAMI COUNTY — The Miami Valley Bird Club and Rescue is selling Mehaffie’s pies. There are apple, Dutch Apple, cherry, peach, blueberry, chocolate, coconut cream, lemon and pecan pies. Pies are $10 each.
If you don’t want a pie but would still like to help the organization out, you can purchase a pie and they will donate it to St. Patrick’s Kitchen in Troy.
Orders need to be placed and paid for by Nov. 1. Delivery of pies will be Saturday, Nov. 17.

Book sale upcoming
MIAMI COUNTY — Friends of the Troy-Miami County Public Library will be holding their semi-annual book sale Thursday through Sunday, Oct. 18-21, at the Miami County Fairgrounds, 650 N. County Road 25-A, Troy.
Hours will be: Members’ Preview Night on Oct. 18 from 6-8 p.m. (memberships available at the door); and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 19-21.
A selection of books, puzzles, DVDs, special titles, and old books will be available, with prices starting at 25 cents. Sunday is $1 per bag of books and all specials are half price. All proceeds will be used for the Summer Reading Club, Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, other literacy efforts, and special purchases for the library.

Chamber concert series begins
TROY — On Tuesday, Oct. 30 at 7:30 p.m., the Hayner’s Drawing Room Chamber Series will open with opera’s greatest hits featuring Ginger Minneman, Kylene Griffith Terhune and Sarah Reinhardt. Participants will take a whirlwind tour of great music from the world of opera.
Minnemanhas an impressive biography, serving as clinician and educator at Wright State University, teaching Voice, Music of Western Cultures, Musicianship and Piano. She also conducts the WSU Women’s Chorale. She was opera conductor for WSU’s “The Magic Flute,” as well as directing scenes from “Die Fledermaus,”and “The Pirates of Penzance.” She also performs regularly as a soloist and is the director of music at the Lutheran Church of Our Savior in Oakwood.
Since 1998 this intimate chamber series has been presented at the Hayner on the last Tuesday of most months in the school year. Concert pianist Steven Aldredge is the host. Aldredge is also a sought-after composer and an educator at Wright State University. The series is presented free to the public.
