Piqua Central grad honored

GRANDBURY, Texas — Lori Williams, a 1979 graduate of Piqua Central High School now teaching second grade at Baccus Elementary School in Grandbury, Texas, was recently named the district’s Elemtary Teacher of the Year by Weatherford College at the Jack Harvey Academy of Exemplary Teachers ceremony.

The award is named in memory of a former Weatherford College professor who was highly regarded by his peers.

Williams is the daughter of Pat Grissom Walker and the late William Grissom of Piqua. She previously tuaught at Piqua Catholic School.

Smith on Ashland baseball team

ASHLAND — Alexander Smith of Piqua has been chosen to be a member of the Division II varsity men’s baseball team at Ashland University. Smith, a senior, is a right-handed pitcher for the Eagles.

Smith, who is majoring in business management, is the son of Richard and Tracy Smith of Piqua, and a 2011 graduate of Lehman High School.

Students make dean’s lists

• SPRINGFIELD — Wittenberg University regularly recognizes students who maintain high educational standards. The following students maintained a 3.5 or higher grade point average for the fall semester and earned a place on the Dean’s List: Paige Chaney of Tipp City; Korinne Digel of Troy; Kaitlyn Flory of Troy; Alexander Hallauer of Tipp City; Clayton Marsh of Piqua; Evelyn Ritzi of Troy.

• NORTH CANTON — Jenna Kronenberger of Piqua earned Walsh University Dean’s List honors for the fall semester.

• LINCOLN, Neb. — Justin Gardner of Troy has been named to the Deans’ List/Explore Center List of Distinguished Students at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln for the fall semester. Gardner, a graduate student master of business administration major, was named to the Dean’s List for the College of Business Administration.

• GROVE CITY, Pa. — Maddie Bauder, a freshman International Business major, was named to the Dean’s List with Distinction (GPA of 3.60 to 3.84) at Grove City College. Bauder is a 2015 graduate of Tippecanoe High School and is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Patrick (Wendy) Bauder from Tipp City.

• FINDLAY — The Dean’s List for the fall semester at The University of Findlay includes the following Miami County students:

UF announces fall grads

FINDLAY — Nearly 200 students graduated from The University of Findlay in December. Local students include:

Sarah Blackmore of Troy, received a bachelor of science in health science. Blackmore graduated from the University with the academic designation of magna cum laude.

Chase Goulette of Tipp City received a bachelor of science in sport and event management.

Sarah Hess of Pleasant Hill, received a master of occupational therapy.

Zhang graduates MU

OXFORD — Ling Zhang of Piqua received a master of education degree from Miami University during fall commencement exercises on Friday, Dec. 11, 2015, in Millett Hall.
