McKendree UMC on summer schedule

TROY — Starting Sunday, June 18, McKendree United Methodist Church located at 2025 Dayton-Brandt Road will start its summer schedule. The first service will be at 8:30 a.m., followed by the regular Sunday Service at 10:30 a.m. Summer services will continue through Labor Day.

Morning prayers, bible study at FLC

TROY — Every Tuesday at 9:30 a.m., Pastor Holst leads morning prayers at First Lutheran Church. On Wednesday afternoons at 2 p.m., the ladies gather with Pastor Holst for Bible Conversations, the Book of Ephesians. The community is always welcome.

On Sundays, First Lutheran offers a single service at 9:30 a.m. Communion is celebrated on the first and third Sundays each month. Pastor Holst always has a children’s message just for the little ones as well.

Reading program returns to Casstown UMC

CASSTOWN — The Casstown United Methodist Church, thanks to a grant provided by the Miami Valley District of the United Methodist Church, will be offering the “Live Free” reading and activity program this summer for youth entering Kindergarten through sixth grade.

The program will be offered once a week for five weeks on Tuesdays, from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Casstown UMC, 102 Center St. in Casstown. The dates of the program are June 20, June 27, July 11, July 18 and July 25.

“Live Free,” which highlights reading skill development, will also include crafts, music and tips for healthy living. A healthy lunch and snack (following the Ohio Department of Education summer lunch program guidelines) is also included.

Frances Drost concert announced

PLEASANT HILL — Frances Drost will appear in concert at 7 p.m. on Saturday, June 24, at Pleasant Hill Brethren in Christ Church. Drost is a singer, songwriter and inspirational speaker who began her own company, “Musical Creations,” as a way to encourage people on their journey through life. Drost takes years of life experiences and distills them into “three minute messages” for a unique ministry. She is the winner of the 2009 Momentum Award for Female Artist of the Year.

International food fest planned

WEST MILTON — An international food tasting festival will be held Saturday, June 24, from 3-5 p.m. at Hoffman United Methodist Church. It will take place in the activity center at 201 S. Main St. (one block west of State Route 48).

There will be eight countries represented: Germany, Honduras, Italy, Lebanon, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru and the Philippines. This event is open to the public and is free of charge. Come taste all the interesting native foods and enjoy the decorations. A few of those taking part are representing their native countries.

St. John’s to host VBS

TROY — St John’s United Church of Christ will host “Maker Fun Factory Vacation Bible School: Created by God, Built for a Purpose” from June 25-29.

Kids will participate in memorable Bible-learning activities, sing catchy songs, play teamwork-building games, make and devour yummy treats, and experience one-of-a-kind Bible adventures. Kids at VBS will also join a missions effort to fund items for a local food pantry. Each day the children will bring in a canned good for the pantry.

Kids music program offered

TROY — St. John’s United Church of Christ will hold an arts and music program for children ages 4–16 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Thursday, July 10 through Aug. 10, at 130 S. Walnut St. in Troy.

The summer program will introduce children to a variety of band instruments and art forms, providing children with a basic understanding of music and an opportunity to express themselves through dance, drama, and visual arts such as painting and pottery. Under the supervision of church staff, college students majoring in music and the arts will offer guidance and leadership.

Parents can register their children for the full five weeks, one or more selected weeks, or by the day on a drop-in basis.

The program is free, and lunch will be provided daily.

Vacation Bible School planned

FLETCHER — Fletcher United Methodist Church invites families to join in “Maker Fun Factory” Vacation Bible School. Kids will have the opportunity to meet new friends, do some experiments, play creative games, enjoy snacks, go on adventures, and participate in music. Peacefull Heart at Bethel UMC

PIQUA — Bethel United Methodist Church in Piqua will host a Peacefull Heart praise concert from 6-9 p.m. on July 22. The church will also host an ice cream social in conjunction with the event. Peacefull Heart is a collection of original arrangements and compositions with inspirational stories and lyrics. The primary focus of the original compositions is sacred faith based with inspirations from the Holy Bible. The arrangements are improvisations on well known traditional hymns and melodies by other composers.

Join Peacefull Heart and Bethel United Methodist for an evening of ice cream and music. Admission is free. The church is located at 2505 E. Loy Road, Piqua.
