Defending the right to choose

To the Editor:

I can’t believe we are arguing abortion again. I am old enough to remember how women fought for the right of women to control their own bodies. I don’t love abortion, but I will defend a woman’s right to choose.

I do not feel that I have a right to inflict my beliefs on another human being. The present law does not require anyone to have an abortion where an abortion ban law would require everyone to notT have an abortion. This is a reduction in individual freedom.

The counter argument bemoans the rights of the unborn. My response to that is what about the rights of children born into an unwanted position? Who cares for them? Unless that argument is accompanied by true caring for children brought into life, it holds no weight with me.
