FAIRBORN — The Troy girls bowling team hit a new high.

The Trojan girls set a new record for team score in a match Thursday, traveling to Bowl Ten to defeat Fairborn 2,553-2,245. The Troy boys completed the sweep with a solid night of its own, bowling its early season-best in a 2,505-1,980 win over the Skyhawks.

The highlight of the night was the girls match, with two former state champions going head to head — with Troy winning theirs last season.

A’leigha Smith led a group of three Trojan girls (3-0, 1-0 Greater Western Ohio Conference America North Division) that topped the 450 series mark, rolling 226-268—494. Jenna Stone followed that up with 236-246—482, Cassidy McMullen rolled 226-233—459, Kirsten McMullen rolled 200-192—392, Alyssa Shilt added a 157 and Jennica Funderburg a 151.

Troy’s boys (2-1, 1-0 GWOC American North) also had three bowlers top the 400 series mark, with Aaron Stone leading the way with 268-202—470. Hayden Jackson rolled 223-202—425, Jason Shiltz rolled 214-207—421, A.J. Kendall rolled 171-213—384, Landon Flory rolled a 236 game and Logan Jones added a 157.

Both Troy teams compete in the Wright State Raider Challenge Saturday at Beaver-vu Bowl.

Covington 64,

Bradford 41

BRADFORD — The Covington girls basketball team (7-1, 5-0 Cross County Conference) outscored the Bradford Railroaders 40-16 over the course of the second and third quarters Thursday night, pulling away for a 64-41 victory to remain unbeaten in conference play.

Sammie Whiteman led the Buccaneers with a game-high 28 points, with Lexie Long and Jordan Crowell both scoring seven and Addison Metz and Lillian Hamilton adding six apiece.

Mandi Bates led Bradford with 17 points, Bianca Keener scored seven and had 12 rebounds and Chelsea Gill and Ally Booker each had six points.

Covington will compete in Miami East’s Barnball Classic tournament Saturday and Sunday, facing Woorward in the opening round at 1:30 p.m. Saturday. Bradford, meanwhile, travels to Northridge Tuesday.

Milton-Union 36,

Carlisle 23

WEST MILTON — Milton-Union got back to the .500 mark Thursday night, holding off Carlisle 36-23 in Southwestern Buckeye League Buckeye Division play to improve to 3-3 and 2-1 in the division.

Taylor Jacobs scored 10 points, Kristen Dickison added nine, Maddie Brown had seven and Liz Renner added six to lead the Bulldogs, who knocked Carlisle to 5-2 overall and 3-2 in the SWBL Buckeye with the loss.

Milton-Union travels to Dixie Saturday.

CASSTOWN — The Miami East Vikings faced one of the tougher wrestling teams in the state Thursday night, going up against Versailles, and the Vikings fell well behind early and won the final three matches of the night in a 51-13 loss.

With Miami East trailing 51-0, Graham Shore (126) pinned Preston Platfoot in the second round to get the Vikings on the board. Trey Rush (132) added an 8-2 decision over Steven Mangen and Alex Isbrandt (138) scored a 16-2 major decision over Kyle Wuebker in the final match of the night.

Miami East will compete in the Tippecanoe Red Devil Invitational Saturday.
