The Miami County YMCA Master Marlins, a team of 17 swimmers competing in United States Masters Swimming (www.usms.org) that has been together and practicing for roughly four months, has competed in two short course yard (SCY) meets and one short course meter (SCM) meet this season, with the rest of the SCY season ending June 1. So far,the team has competed at meets in Cincinnati, Beavercreek and Oxford.
For the women, Amanda Seas, 24, is ranked eighth. in the 200-yard IM (2:33.08) and 12th in the 100-yard back (1:10.23). Betsy South, 53, is ranked 30th in the 50-yard breast and 39th in the 200-yard free. Christine Bathgate, 38, is ranked 15th in the 500-yard free (7:13.31), and 22nd in the 50-yard fly.
In the men’s rankings, Austin Oder, 22, is ranked 13th in the 200-meter breast (3:20.48) and 16th in the 200-yard IM (2:56.23). Ryan Berning, 24, is ranked 33rd in the 200-yard free and 36th in the 100-yard breast. Scott Boyer, 56, is ranked 12th in the 200-yard IM (2:38.51) and 13th in the 100-yard fly (1:14.23). Jeff Lange, 61, is ranked 2nd in the 200-yard breast (2:54.45) and 6th in the 100-yard breast (1:18.38).
Several of these swims have qualified the athletes for a chance to go to the USMS Short Course National Meet in California in May, with others aiming to qualify for the same meet in 2018 in Indianapolis at Indiana University.
