DAYTON — For a quarter, the Tippecanoe girls basketball team hung with Carroll.

But in the race for the top seed in the upcoming Division II Tecumseh sectional, there was just no catching the Patriots.

The Red Devils (13-3) trailed by only one after a quarter to start off Monday night’s showdown, but Carroll (15-2) opened up a 29-19 lead at the half and continued building from there to put away a 52-33 victory in a battle of state-ranked teams, likely locking up the top seed in the postseason bracket.

Allison Mader led the Devils with 10 points on the night, but the offense in general was held to its second-lowest point total of the season since scoring 28 in a season-opening loss at Fairmont. The 52 points allowed was also the second-highest total on the year, with the highest being the 54 Stebbins scored in a Tippecanoe win last week.

Tippecanoe travels to West Carrollton Wednesday.

Tri-Village 58,

Troy 36

TROY — For the first eight minutes, Troy showed that it could contend with the No. 1 team in the state in Division IV Monday night.

But the Tri-Village Patriots pulled away from the Trojans from there, outscoring them 17-5 in the second quarter to take control for good in a 58-36 victory Monday at the Trojan Activities Center in a makeup game from the rescheduled Barnball Classic holiday tournament earlier this season.

Troy only trailed 16-12 at the end of the first quarter, but the Patriots turned that second-quarter performance into a 33-17 lead at the half and carried a 46-26 lead into the fourth quarter en route to the win.

Alaura Holycross led Troy (8-8) with 12 points and eight rebounds, Tia Bass added 11 points and seven rebounds off the bench and Kiyha Adkins, Gabbi Johnson and MaKenna Taylor each scored four points.

Danika Mann had 19 points and eight rebounds and Allie Downing added 15 points and eight rebounds for Tri-Village.

Troy travels to Xenia Wednesday before returning home Saturday to begin its second run through Greater Western Ohio Conference American North Division play against Greenville.

Newton 59,

Dixie 36

PLEASANT HILL — Newton’s Tatum McBride had 22 points at halftime, leading the Indians to a 59-36 rout of visiting Dixie Monday night.

McBride finished with a game-high 28 points, six steals and four assists on the night as Newton (10-4) built a 41-22 lead by halftime and coasted to the win.

Newton hosts Arcanum Thursday night.
