East boys open season with 1-0 win

XENIA — The Tippecanoe girls soccer team kept building momentum Wednesday night, picking up its second road victory in a row with a 4-0 win at Xenia in Greater Western Ohio Conference American League crossover play.

Megan Rittenhouse scored a pair of goals to lead the Red Devils (2-1, 1-0 GWOC American North Division). Lauren Lester and Payton Willis each had a goal, while Allie Wasson, Makayla Stallard and Hannah Chaplin each had an assist.

Tippecanoe travels to Northmont Monday, the third game of its four-game road trip.

CASSTOWN — Miami East couldn’t keep Northwestern from making the most of its chances Wednesday night, falling 2-1 at home.

Hailey Weaver scored the Vikings’ (1-2) lone goal with an assist from Haley Demmitt. Kelly Buck had five saves in goal.

Miami East travels to Twin Valley South to open Cross County Conference play Aug. 31.

SPRINGFIELD — After a scoreless first half, the Miami East boys soccer team was able to get a goal and held on for the final 29 minutes, defeating Northwestern 1-0 on the road Wednesday night.

With 29 minutes remaining in the game, Connor Wilson finished off a Wesley Sutherly cross with a header for the game-winning goal.

“This game was very hard fought on both sides,” Miami East coach Adam Bell said. “We went into the half 0-0, and the one thing I repeated throughout the entire break was that this game would come down to one goal. Coming out in the second half, we looked a little flat, so I made a few adjustments. Very proud of my guys, and this game was great to set the tone for the rest of our campaign.”

Miami East travels to Miami Valley Saturday.

WEST MILTON — The Milton-Union boys golf team improved to 4-1 overall and 2-1 in the Southwestern Buckeye League Buckeye Division with a 181-266 victory Wednesday over Northridge.

Hayden Davidson was medalist for the Bulldogs with a 40, Aaron Brown and Max Grafflin both shot 46 and Justin Brown and Nick Brumbaugh both shot 49.

WEST MILTON — The Milton-Union tennis team had a tough test Wednesday as visiting Oakwood defeated the Bulldogs 5-0.

At first singles, Hannah Fugate lost to Lily McCloskey 6-0, 6-1. At second singles, Meredith Fitch lost to Natalie Connelly 6-0, 6-0. At third singles, Hailey Lauterbur lost to Agatha Shafer 6-3, 6-0.

At first doubles, Abby Hissong and Laura Billing lost to Sophie Schnell and Sidney Purks 6-1, 6-2. At second doubles, Rachel Rock and Caitlin Bushelman lost to Katie Ritschel and Sophie Russell 6-3, 6-4.
