Tippecanoe evens record: Week 4 high school football roundup

WEST CARROLLTON — The Tippecanoe football team piled up a school-record 524 rushing yards in a 56-26 win over West Carrollton Friday.

Leading the way for the Red Devils was Josh Burritt, who had 14 carries for 297 yards — an eye-popping 21.2 yards per carry — and two touchdowns. He also hauled in a 39-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Troy Taylor.

Cade Beam finished with eight carries for 80 yards and three touchdowns, while Jackson Yeager and Ben Ambos both added touchdown runs.

With the win, Tippecanoe improved to 2-2, while West Carrollton fell to 1-3. The Red Devils host Stebbins this coming Friday.

Milton-Union 26, Northridge 6

DAYTON — Milton-Union opened Southwestern Buckeye League Buckeye Division play with a win over Northridge Friday.

Robbie Grove, Dalton Hetzler and Jake Swafford all had rushing touchdowns for the Bulldogs. William Morris threw a touchdown pass to Aaron Stone.

With the win, Milton improved to 2-2 (1-0 in the SWBL Buckeye), while Northridge fell to 1-3 (0-1). Milton hosts Middletown Madison this coming Friday.

Covington 45, Tri-County North 8

COVINGTON — The Buccaneers were able to avoid their first 0-4 start since 1991 with a convincing win over Tri-County North Friday.

Covington’s defense held TC North to minus-82 rushing yards, breaking a record originally set in 1987 against Bradford. The Buccaneer defense also recorded a pair of safeties, one on a sack by Brayden Wiggins and Gavin McReynolds and the second when the defense pinned the Panthers deep and a bad snap out of the end zone led by a second safety.

Cade Schmelzer had touchdown passes to Kleyton Maschino (51 yards), Andrew Cates (16 yards) and Austin Flick (86 yards). Gage Kerrigan (1 yard), Trentin Alexander (9 yards) and Dylan Burns (44 yards) all had touchdown runs.

With the win, Covington improved to 1-3 (1-1 in the Cross County Conference), while TC North fell to 2-2 (1-1). Covington travels to Arcanum this coming Friday.

Lucas 34, Troy Christian 28

TROY — Troy Christian lost its first game of the season Friday, dropping a heartbreaker to Lucas.

With the loss, Troy Christian fell to 3-1, while Lucas improved to 3-1. The Eagles travel to McClain this coming Friday.

Ansonia 28, Bethel 19

ANSONIA — Bethel suffered his first of the season Friday, falling to Ansonia in CCC play.

With the loss, Bethel fell to 3-1 (1-1 in the CCC), while Ansonia improved 3-1 (2-0). The Bees travel to Miami East Thursday for a locally televised game.

Piqua 29, Fairborn 14

PIQUA — With the game tied 14-14 after three quarters, Piqua scored a pair of touchdowns in the fourth quarter to pull away from Fairborn Friday.

Micah Karn completed 11-of-14 passes for 170 yards and a touchdown to Owen Toopes. He also rushed for a score. Makeegan Kuhn rushed for Piqua’s other score.

With the win, Piqua improved to 3-1, while Fairborn fell to 0-4. The Indians travel to Trotwood-Madison this coming Friday.

Arcanum 48, Bradford 7

BRADFORD — The Railroaders remain in search of their first victory after falling to Arcanum Friday.

With the loss, Bradford fell to 0-4 (0-2 in the CCC), while Arcanum improved to 1-3 (1-1). The Railroaders travel to Tri-County North this Friday.
