Troy Christian bounces back vs. McClain: Week 5 high school football roundup

GREENFIELD — Jason Blake had a monster game as the Troy Christian football team rebounded from its first loss of the season last week with a 34-14 win over McClain Friday.

Blake played every play on both sides of the ball for the Eagles. On offense, Blake finished with 25 carries for 220 yards and three touchdowns. Nathan Waltz had nine carries for 56 yards and a touchdown. Brady Clawson had four receptions for 55 yards and a touchdown. Caleb Twiss completed 8-of-11 passes for 77 yards and two touchdowns.

With the win, Troy Christian improved to 4-1, while McClain fell to 1-4. Troy Christian hosts Ponitz Tech (0-5) this Friday.

Covington 24,

Arcanum 6

ARCANUM — After opening the season with three-straight losses, Covington has rebounded to win its last two games, including Friday’s victory over Arcanum.

The game was tied 6-6 at halftime, but the Buccaneers closed out the game on an 18-0 run in the second half. Covington scored first on a 4-yard touchdown pass from Cade Schmelzer to Parker Dysinger. Brayden Wiggins added touchdown runs of 10 and 45 yards, while Gage Kerrigan scored on a 1-yard run.

With the win, Covington improved to 2-3 (2-1 in the Cross County Conference), while Arcanum fell to 1-4 (1-2). The Buccaneers host Miami East this coming Friday.

Madison 34,

Milton-Union 0

WEST MILTON — Milton-Union fell to Middletown Madison, a Division V state semifinalist last season, Friday.

With the loss, Milton fell to 2-3 (1-1 in the Southwestern Buckeye League Buckeye Division), while Madison improved to 5-0 (2-0). The Bulldogs host Waynesville this coming Friday.

Trotwood 48,

Piqua 13

TROTWOOD — Piqua got on the board first, but Trotwood dominated the rest of the way Friday.

Piqua’s first score came on a 19-yard touchdown pass from Micah Karn to Brennan Toopes. From there, however, Trotwood scored the next 48 points. Piqua added a late score on a Jerrell Lewis touchdown run.

With the loss, Piqua fell to 3-2, while Trotwood improved to 3-2. The Indians travel to Sidney this coming Friday.

Lehman 63,

Elgin 44

MARION — Lehman has won three in a row after opening the season 0-2, including a shootout win over Elgin Friday.

With the win, Lehman improved to 3-2 (2-0 in the Northwest Central Conference), while Elgin fell to 1-4 (0-2). Lehman hosts Hardin Northern this coming Friday.

TC North 48,

Bradford 0

LEWISBURG — Bradford fell to 0-5 (0-3 in the Cross County Conference) with a loss to Tri-County North (3-2, 2-1) Friday.

Bradford hosts Tri-Village this coming Friday.
