URBANA — The Piqua girls basketball team improved to 3-0 Monday night with a 49-40 victory at Urbana.

Piqua led 13-8 after one quarter and stretched it to 31-10 at halftime.

The Indians still led 44-24 after three quarters.

Aubree Schrubb had 20 points and nine rebounds, while Tylah Yeomans had 12 points and 13 rebounds.

Karley Johns added eight points, while Tayler Grunkemeyer had five steals and five rebounds.

Piqua was 22 of 47 from the floor for 47 percent, including two of nine from long range for 22 percent. The Lady Indians made just three of 11 free throws for 27 percent.

Urbana was 14 of 52 from the floor for 27 percent, including four of 11 on 3-pointers for 36 percent. The Hillclimbers made eight of 14 free throws for 57 percent.

Urbana won the battle of the boards 35-32 and had 19 turnovers to Piqua’s 17.

Piqua plays at Vandalia-Butler Wednesday and hosts Sidney Friday in a girls/boys doubleheader.

Anna 53,

Lehman 23

ANNA — The Lehman Catholic girls basketball team dropped to 2-3 with a loss to Anna.

Lehman trailed 14-5, 29-12 and 46-14 at the quarter breaks.

Lauren McFarland scored 11 points.

Anna Cianciolo had five rebounds and Rylie McIver had three steals.

Carlisle 57,

Bethel 44

CARLISLE — Bethel kept pace early Monday at Carlisle, but the Bees fell behind in the second and third quarters and couldn’t recover in a 57-44 non-league loss.

Bethel (2-2) only trailed by one after the first quarter at 16-15, but Carlisle (3-0) pulled ahead 34-26 at halftime and held a 50-34 lead heading into the final quarter.

Liv Reittinger led the Bees with 13 points, Sam Wiley added seven and Lydia Lowry scored six.

Bethel hosts Arcanum Thursday.

Greenon 63,

Covington 56

COVINGTON — A bad fourth quarter doomed Covington Monday night.

The Buccaneers led 17-12, 36-33 and 50-46 at the quarter breaks, but Greenon outscored them 17-6 in the fourth quarter.

Claudia Harrington had 26 points for Covington and Morgan Kimmel added 16.

Other scores: Russia 54, Newton (0-3) 21.

RIVERSIDE — The Tippecanoe boys bowling team opened the season with a 2,231-1,763 victory over Stebbins on the road in Miami Valley League crossover play, while the Red Devil girls dropped a close match to the Indians, 1,595-1,473.

Aaron Davis led Tippecanoe’s boys (1-0, 1-0 MVL Miami Division) by rolling 167-225—392, Austin Post rolled 175-214—389, James Ridgeway rolled 185-192—377, Colin Maalouf rolled 193-182—375, Zach Kauffmann added a 240 game and Taylor Riggle added a 137 game.

For the girls, Alison Johnston rolled 139-170—309, Taylor Horne rolled 157-117—274, Isabeall Janney rolled 116-119—235, Emma Lara rolled 116-106—222 and Emily Von Krosigk rolled 105-105—210.

Tippecanoe takes on Trotwood Thursday to continue a four-match road trip to start the season.
