TROY — The Troy High School Thespians troupe are proud to present their fall production, “The SeussOdyssey,” a play by Don Zolidis.

Performances are set for Saturday at 7p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Troy High School auditorium.

The show is a comedic retelling of Homer’s “The Odyssey,” performed in rhyming couplets in the style of Dr. Seuss.

“The Odyssey’ is required reading for ninth graders at Troy High School,” said director Irene Imboden. “I got to meet the playwright of this show a couple of times. He comes to a lot of our national events. We’ve done some of his other plays here at the high school, and they’re always fun and family-friendly. I wanted to try something that’s part of the curriculum, and the rhyming just seems like a fun challenge.”

“I’ve done crew stuff, but I’ve never acted onstage,” said senior Dominic Wenrick, who portrays Ajax/Reginald. “I want to pursue a career in the arts, so it helps to understand what each role does, so that I’ll be able to do my jobs better. It’s been very different than I thought it would be, but everyone’s been very welcoming.”

“I think this show’s set is something that’s pretty different, because it’s kind of minimal, but also fun and colorful,” said senior Abby Johnson, who portrays Penelope/Tiresius, and is performing in her ninth show on the Troy High School stage. “Also, the fact that the whole show is in rhyming couplets is totally wacky. It’s so fun to work with, and I personally think it made it a lot easier to memorize the lines. I hope the audience enjoys it.”

In addition to Wenrick and Johnson, the cast includes, alphabetically, Brandon Allen as Odysseus, Autumn Bruns as Villager 2/Crew 2/Suitor 5, Jake Darby as Telly/Lotus Head/Siren 3, Alissa Dever as Crew 6/8/10/12, Kayly Gagel as Villager 4/Crew 4, Victoria Glover as Villager 1/Crew 1/Suitor 4, Sydney Hooker as Homer/Calypso/Siren 4, Connor Knapp as Teacher/Cyclops/Ghost/Charybdis, Bri’Anna Lovato as Student/Circe/Scylla, Jessica Loy as Suitor 3/Wind 2, Maddi Reed as Suitor 1/Aelous, Angie Rice as Narrator 2, Macie Sadler as Athena/Ghost/Siren 1, Molly Sanders as Narrator 1, Gabriel Shelton as Poseidon/Ghost/Siren 2, Emily Shurtz as Crew 5/7/9/11, Abigail Van Hook as Suitor 2/Wind 1, and Colleen Watkins as Villager 3/Crew 3/Suitor 6.

The show’s crew includes stage manager Allison Barnthouse, assistant stage manager Connor Watkins, Alexis Lewis on sound, Reyna Bonnett on lights, and crew members Loretta Ansley, James Craft, Madison Fisher, Bethany Krimm, Emily Maloney, Camille Scribner, Victoria Van Hook, Ellie Weaver, Emily Wenrick, Gabe Wolf, and Demetry Young.

Tickets to “The SeussOdyssey” are $8 for adults, $5 for students, and are on sale in the high school office, and will be available at the door 30 minutes before curtain.

All proceeds from ticket sales and concessions go toward programs for the drama club and Thespian troupe.

The two-act production runs approximately 90 minutes, with a 15-minute intermission.
