TIPP CITY — Residents were invited to get into the Thanksgiving spirit with a night of free cinema during “Movie Night,” a special event Downtown Tipp City event hosted at Tipp City Library on Friday.
This is the second year that Downtown Tipp City has hosted “Movie Night.”
“Last year, we had dry weather and were able to do it outdoors,” said Downtown Tipp City Executive Director Heather Dorsten. “Last year, we showed ‘The Nightmare Before Christmas’. It was Friday, Nov. 1, right after Halloween, so we try to bridge that gap a bit in our choices.”
This year’s selections were “A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving” and a family-edited version of “Planes, Trains, and Automobiles.”
“We tried to go more Thanksgiving-themed this year,” Dorsten confirmed. “Charlie Brown is only a half-hour long, so it’s a good one for the parents to bring the kids to early. ‘Planes, Trains, and Automobiles’ is more of an adult film, but it’s about trying to get home for Thanksgiving.”
Dorsten said the event was held as a means to free up some traffic from the downtown district, in preparation for holiday events.
“We tend to do a movie night for the first Friday in November, because all the downtown shop owners are setting up for the Winter’s Yuletide Gathering,” Dorsten said. “Right now, we have multiple businesses already closed because they’re covering their windows and restocking for the holidays.”
The Winter’s Yuletide Gathering falls every second weekend in November, featuring a shopkeepers’ Christmas open house open on Saturday, Nov. 10 and Sunday, Nov. 11.
“There’s going to be Christmas music playing down and carriage rides,” Dorsten said. “Shopkeepers have a lot of different specials and all of their Christmas decor is out. It’s a huge holiday weekend.”
