TROY — A man killed a four-week-old kitten in a fit of rage at the Imperial Court apartment complex on Monday afternoon.
According to police records, Troy Police Department arrested Robert Jenkins, 29, of Troy for fifth degree felony domestic violence and second degree misdemeanor cruelty animals following an argument with his wife.
At 1:30 p.m. Troy Police Department responded to 1322 Imperial Court after a third party called to report a female being physically assaulted by a man with a knife and that the subject had already killed a cat.
Upon arrival, the female victim held a grocery bag with a dead kitten inside and said during the fight Jenkins had picked the kitten up and thrown it against the wall, killing it.
According to the female victim’s statement, during the physical altercation Mr. Jenkins got a kitchen knife, stating that he was going to kill everyone in the house, and put the knife to her throat. The victim advised at one point she attempted to leave the residence and Jenkins restrained her from leaving. Jenkins left the scene with his mother and later returned to give his statement.
After further investigation, Jenkins admitted that he had thrown the kitten against the wall and brandishing a knife during the incident.
Jenkins remains incarcerated at the Miami County Jail on $25,000 bond. A pre-trial has been set for 1 p.m. June 16 with Judge Elizabeth Gutmann presiding.
